About Us

Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world, one child and one community at a time.  The name “Kiwanis” means “we trade” or “we share our talents.” It was coined from a Native American expression, Nunc Kee-wanis.

The Kiwanis Club of Poughkeepsie, NY is proud to be a local chapter, chartered on December 31, 1920, just five years after the founding of Kiwanis International.  We are very proud of the Poughkeepsie Kiwanians who have served before us and the legacy they have left behind.  Today, we carry on this legacy of providing community service to the greater Poughkeepsie area.

The Poughkeepsie Kiwanis Charitable Foundation was established in Spring, 2016 as the nonprofit fundraising arm of the Club. We are now tax exempt to better serve the community!
