If you're from Poughkeepsie you'll understand the meaning behind Kiwanis. The name “Kiwanis” was coined from a Native American expression, Nunc Kee-wanis, this means “we share our talents.” Kiwanis didn't originate in Poughkeepsie but it feels like it very well could have, it is in fact a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world, one child and one community at a time.
The Kiwanis Club of Poughkeepsie was among the original clubs, however, and was chartered on December 31, 1920, five years after the founding of Kiwanis International. We are very proud of the Poughkeepsie Kiwanians who have served before us and the legacy they have left behind.
The Poughkeepsie Kiwanis Charitable Foundation was established in Spring, 2016 as the nonprofit fundraising arm of the Club. We are now tax exempt to better serve the community!
