It’s About Kids & More…
9/11 Memorial Park at City Hall
Dedicated on September 11th, 2015. The park honors the fallen heroes of September 11, 2001. The Kiwanis Club of Poughkeepsie is proud to have had the opportunity to lead this project and see it to completion.
Hulme park is maintained by club members. It is the home of “Katie’s Tree”. Each year students from Morse Elementary School make holiday decoration for the tree. The park on the Eastbound Arterial is also the site of the Detective Falcone Memorial Flagpole.
Catching Kids Caring
Our local program is based on the premise that we need to catch and reward elementary and middle school kids for doing good deeds and activities that help others.
Camp Mariah Fresh Air Fund Camp
We sponsor Camp Mariah’s efforts to allow inner-city kids a summer in the country by providing needed supplies to the campers. These supplies include bug repellent, sun tan lotions, flip-flops, tee-shirts, and a full range of arts and crafts necessities.
Donations allow our club to send underserved local children, many with special needs, to summer camp at our NY State District run “Kamp Kiwanis” in upstate New York.
High School Scholarships
We award scholarships to local college-bound graduating seniors who have demonstrated involvement in community service. Recipients are nominated by their teachers and school administrators.
Bone Marrow Donor Drive
We host an annual bone marrow donor drive to help DKMS in their critical efforts to fight Leukemia in children and adults.
Community Family Development Center and the Poughkeepsie Child Development Center
We provide financial support to these important community not-for-profit day care centers which provide child care for local children from six weeks to twelve years of age.
We support organizations and agencies throughout Dutchess County that serve the community.
