Steven McDonald, Hero NYPD cop, passes away at 59

Last year Steven McDonald was so generous to share his message of forgiveness with all of us in the City of Poughkeepsie as we remembered September 11th together. We are all deeply saddened to hear of his loss and our thoughts and prayers are with his family. The Daily News reported this sad news early January 2017.

Steven McDonald was an icon of mercy and forgiveness, a prophet of the dignity of all human life, a shining example of the best of what the New York Police Department represents, a loving husband and father, and a fervent and faithful Catholic,” Dolan said in a statement.

Kiwanis Selects New President

No debate or controversy here at Kiwanis as we installed a new President, Randy Ross ’11. Randy will preside over the Club and Foundation through the next year as he takes over for immediate Past President, Vicky Deichler.

Randy provided some inspiring words in his introduction and in the newsletter about the coming year:

For my time in the club I’ve had three presidents,
Michael, Suzanne, and Vicky. I will rely on each
of them to guide me through the intricacies of
my position. Pete will help with the weekly
organization and minutiae that he’s good at. And
your support and humor will ease me through
the anxiety of a new regime. I will support all of
our projects that that already in place, and bring
to the table what is important to others and will
help us shine a light on what’s needed in our
community. Please remember Rose Day is
quickly upon us, as well as our Kiwanis One day.

We have a lot on our plates, a smorgasbord of
possibilities. Let’s work together to follow the
dictum: one child and one community at a time.

The installation ceremony took place on October 6th at Milanese in the City of Poughkeepsie.

Special guests included:
• Lt Gov. Frank Gerbes
• President Vicky Deichler
• 5-Yr Kiwanian Randy Ross
• 15-Yr Kiwanian Ed Belas
• 25-Yr Kiwanian Nancy Forrest
• New Member Laurie Robinson

City and Kiwanis Hold 9/11 Memorial Ceremony

The City of Poughkeepsie in partnership with the Kiwanis Club of Poughkeepsie honored the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks this past Friday, September 9th. The annual ceremony at City Hall’s 9/11 Memorial Park pays tribute to those who lost their lives that tragic day. And to thank all of the servicemen and servicewomen for their heroism.

Detective Steven McDonald

The ceremony featured keynote speaker Detective Steven McDonald from the New York City Police Department. His story was one of hope, love, forgiveness, and inspiration to future generations.

Fire Department and Police Department Servicemen and Servicewomen attended along with community members to honor the memory of those who sacrificed everything on 9/11.

There are more 9/11 memorial events happening this weekend across the Hudson Valley, learn more about them at HVNN. Video from the memorial will appear on HVNN.
